Overgate Hospice
(UK Charity, ~£4M revenue, ~600+ employees/volunteers)
The Challenge
Overgate Hospice was facing potentially crippling Microsoft annual licencing increases and did not have the necessary experience or expertise to properly review and develop options to mitigate these.
Overgate asked Ben Meade to conduct an urgent review to generate options to avoid these imminent cost increases and ensure that Overgate was on the right strategic IT path for the future.
Ringfence's Solution
Ben Meade engaged quickly to understand Overgate’s current Microsoft licencing deployment and business requirements, liaising with key people across the Charity (central Hospice, Shops and Donations Centre) as well as the existing IT Service provider.
This resulted in an alternative Microsoft licencing deployment being agreed & implemented that significantly reduced Overgate’s extensive yet essential Volunteer team’s requirement for individual Microsoft licences. This in turn led to reduced Microsoft licencing costs that were more sustainable and could be better understood and controlled into the future.
Ben Meade then also helped with a wider review of Overgate’s IT strategy, providing assurance as well as recommendations for improvement, in particular around helping Overgate to determine the right shape and people requirements for developing its internal IT team.
Key Outcomes
Revised Microsoft licencing strategy for Overgate Hospice reducing the number of licences needed & associated costs, particularly across Shops & Volunteer staff.
Wider Overgate IT strategic review and options & recommendations for improvement, including IT resource needed.
